This Week at 8th Day: A Rock, the Pillars, and the Reps Nobody Saw
Every day this week we paired a Psalm with a piece of the game on Instagram and X. The Psalms ran a stretch from 71 to 76, and they kept circling the same idea: you are not the steady thing in your own career. Something else is. Here is the week in one place, in case a day slipped past you.
- Monday, Psalm 71:3. “Be to me a rock of refuge, to which I may continually come.” The Monday reset. You do not have to earn your way back in. You just come back.
- Wednesday, Psalm 42:11. “Why are you cast down, O my soul? Hope in God.” Paired with the mental game: the 0-for-4, the called third strike, the slump you cannot shake. Cast down is not counted out.
- Thursday, Psalm 74:16-17. “Yours is the day, yours also the night. You have made summer and winter.” Gear day. Day and night, every season, wear the work.
- Friday, Psalm 75:6-7. Lifting up does not come from the east or the west. It comes from God, who keeps the pillars steady. Nobody talks his way onto the field.
- Saturday, Psalm 76. Game day under pressure. Heads up. Mind clear. Eyes forward.
On the baseball side, the line that landed hardest all week had nothing to do with talent. Talent is everywhere. Coachability is rare. The kid who takes a note and uses it on the very next rep beats the gifted kid who will not, every time. That is the same thread running through this year’s rookie class. Nobody arrived overnight. Every one of them logged years of reps nobody saw.
Two days went quiet. Tuesday our accounts were logged out and nothing published, and Sunday had no post at all. Noting it here rather than pretending the week was perfect.
If one of these Psalms hit you, that is the whole reason we put them out daily. Training is at /baseball/. Gear and guides are at /shop/. On the 8th Day, you start over.
