Two Days, Not Three Weeks: Why Our Turnaround Is a Coaching Decision

A coach texted me on a Monday last spring. His roster had shifted over the weekend, he had a tournament Saturday, and half his kids were still in last year’s shirts in three different shades of navy. He wanted to know if there was any chance.

There was. That is the whole reason we run the print shop the way we do.

What the rest of the industry quotes

Ask around and you get a consistent range. Most custom screen printing shops list standard turnaround somewhere between 7 and 14 business days, and several industry guides put the U.S. average closer to the top of that range.

That number is not a scam. It is real production math: art approval, screens burned, garments sourced, and a press queue with a hundred jobs already in front of yours. A shop quoting two weeks is usually telling you the truth about how a shop works.

Now read that same number as a coach instead of a printer. Fourteen business days is close to three calendar weeks. In a high school season that is a quarter of your schedule. In a summer travel season that is four tournaments gone. A coach who orders in week one has shirts around week four, which is right about when the thing he ordered them for already happened.

Two days is a coaching decision, not a logistics stat

We run a 2 day standard on team orders. Order Monday, wear it Wednesday.

I did not pick that number because it looked good on a website. I picked it because I coach, and I know what a Monday looks like when your roster changed on Saturday.

A season is short and momentum is real. When a group of kids finally starts to feel like a team, that is the week you want them in matching gear. Not four weeks later, when the feeling has cooled and two of them have moved to a different club. Gear does not create a team. But putting a group in the same colors while the belief is still building is worth something, and a three week wait quietly costs you that window.

Speed is a service philosophy. It says the coach’s calendar matters more than the printer’s convenience.

What two days actually requires

Here is the honest version, because a coach deserves the real answer before he plans around it. Two days assumes:

  • Art approved the same day. If a design goes back and forth for a week, the clock has not started yet.
  • Standard garments and a reasonable color count. Simple and sharp moves fast. Six color process work on a specialty blend does not.
  • Blanks we can actually get our hands on, in the sizes and colors you need.
  • A team-sized order. A 20 shirt roster and a 500 shirt league order are different animals.

Tell us what you need and when you need it, and we will tell you straight whether two days is real for that job. A fast no is worth more than an optimistic maybe. A coach who hears the truth on Monday can still build a plan B by Tuesday.

The team store handles the part coaches actually hate

The wait is only half the problem. The other half is the admin: collecting sizes in a group text, chasing four parents for money in the dugout, guessing on a youth large for the kid who grew six inches since March.

A custom team store solves that. Parents order their own sizes, they pay direct, and the coach is not the middleman on anybody’s checkout. You approve the design once, then go back to coaching. See how it works at 8th Day Tshirts.

Why we care about this at all

Because it is the same conviction on both sides of the business. On the field, we do the work now and trust the outcome later. Walk by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7. In the shop, that turns into something simpler: do not make a coach wait on something you could finish this week.

It is my job to develop better baseball players. But it is my duty to develop leading members of society. Some of that happens in the cage. Some of it is just doing what you said you would do, on the day you said you would do it. Kids are watching which adults keep their word, and they are keeping score.

Heads up. Mind clear. Eyes forward.
