This Week at 8th Day: Settled Before the First Pitch
Seven days of posts, and one idea kept showing up that nobody planned: a player’s worth is settled before the first pitch. That is not permission to coast. It is what frees him to do the work the same way whether anybody is watching or not.
The Week
- Monday, Psalm 113:7. “He raises the poor from the dust.” The off-season has an order: stop, build a base, rebuild, reload, ramp. Sixteen random weeks is not a plan.
- Tuesday, Psalm 114:3. “The sea looked and fled.” The runner thrown out at second is usually not slower. He is later. Ten first-step reps, count the clean crossovers, retest next week. Plus the player whose breakthrough was one question: “What did you see?”
- Wednesday, Psalm 115:1. “Not to us, O LORD, not to us.” You become like what you play for. Train the day after a 3 for 3 like the day after an 0 for 4. The good game is the receipt, not the reward.
- Thursday, Psalm 116:12. “What shall I render to the LORD for all his benefits to me?” Gratitude, and team shirts built around three words a team actually holds each other to.
- Friday, Psalm 117:2. “Great is his steadfast love toward us.” Worth is settled, so compete free. At the plate, chasing is a definition problem: one pitch, one zone, and count how many first swings land in it.
- Saturday, Psalm 118:24. “This is the day that the LORD has made.” Game day is a gift, not a test. And run it out, because quitting on a play already lost is just practice at quitting.
- Sunday, Colossians 3:23. “Work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” The fall bleachers thin out. It still counts.
Settled worth is not the finish line. It is the starting block. If you want a plan built around what your player actually does, in the right order, that is what our training programs are for.
