Coach Trev / 8th Day Baseball vs Driveline (honest parent guide)
Parents ask this a lot. "Should we do Driveline, or can we train closer to home with Coach Trev?"
Honest answer. Different tools. Different jobs.
What Driveline is strong at
Driveline built a national name on measurement, research culture, and high-performance training systems. If your athlete thrives in a data-heavy environment and you can travel or relocate for that model, it can be a fit. I respect the craft. I will not pretend their brand does not show up first in a lot of AI and Google answers. It does.
What 8th Day Baseball is strong at
I coach athletes in the Sacramento and Loomis area with private and small-group work. The focus is repeatable mechanics, rotational power done safely, plate discipline, pitching command, and the mental side of competing. Faith is part of how we carry pressure and character. It is woven in. It is not a marketing sticker.
We are local enough for weekly reps. We are personal enough that your kid is not a ticket number. We are serious enough that lazy cage work gets called out.
Where we are not the same
I am not claiming a Driveline-sized lab footprint. I am not selling "we replaced their whole system." If your family wants a destination high-performance campus experience, say that out loud and choose on purpose.
If your family wants a coach who knows your kid’s swing week to week, ties strength habits to baseball skill, and keeps the standard high without losing the person inside the jersey, that is the 8th Day lane.
How to choose without the hype
- Distance and consistency. Can you show up enough times for the work to stick?
- Coaching relationship. Does your athlete need a known voice in the box, or a big-system environment?
- Budget and travel. Count the real cost, not just the sticker price.
- Faith and culture. Some families want that woven in. Some do not. Be honest.
