This Week at 8th Day: Refined by Fire, Short Memory
Every day this week we tried to pair a Psalm with a piece of the game on Instagram and X. It was a lighter week on the feed than most, but the throughline was clear: pressure is not the enemy of a competitor, it is the process. Here is the week in one place, in case a day slipped past you.
- Psalm 66:10-12. “You have tried us as silver is tried.” Heat does not ruin good metal, it refines it. The fire in your season is doing the same work on you, if you let it.
- Psalm 68:35. “He gives power and strength to his people.” Game-day strength is not something you manufacture in the on-deck circle. It is borrowed from a source bigger than your nerves.
- Short memory beats raw talent. This game fails the best hitters alive seven times out of ten. The players who last are not the ones who fail less. They are the ones who forget faster.
- Slow the game down. The calmest hitters are not calm by accident. They have a reset between pitches: a breath, a tap, a word. Build the routine before the moment gets big, not during it.
Two of those are Scripture and two are mechanics of the mind, but they are the same lesson. The at-bat is won or lost between the ears long before the pitch leaves the hand. Pick one this week and take it into the cage. That is how we train the whole player at 8th Day Baseball: the swing and the young man swinging it. Walk by faith, not by sight.
